More Sites on the Canals of St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg was founded in 1703 and built by Peter the Great (Catherine I).

It became Leningrad for awhile starting in the late 40's until 1991. It is now back to being called St. Petersburg. 5 Million people live in the greater St Petersburg area. Because of WWI, the capital moved from St. Petersburg to Moscow.

The first picture is the summer Palace of Peter the Great.

This Farm was started in 1540. Part of the house is from that time and more has been added since. Notice the grass on the roof. It is trimmed by goats. Many outside buildings are topped by grass roofs, but living residences are prohibited from having grass roofs due to being a potential fire damage. This farm had horses, sheep, goats, and chickens.
