St. Petersburg- Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood

The Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood was built (1883-1907) to remember Alexander II who died on the very spot. In the 1930's the Bolsheviks stopped services in the building and the building was terribly abused. The church opened in 1997 after a 30 year restoration. The Church is known for its very detailed mosaics and cupola. One picture of the outside of the church shows the church in it's present state with some construction taking place while the other is the intended state. Also shown is the church as it is along a canal. One mozaic picture is shown as is the cupola.
